Owning your own business is considered to be the ultimate dream. Although it can be done, it’s really hard to start a business with no money. According to a survey conducted by the UPS Store, nearly 48% of the people polled who have never owned their own business, dreamed of one day becoming their own boss. The reality is very people will actually pursue their dream of owning a business.

Why? Because they feel they don’t have enough money.

Starting Your Own Business is Extremely Rewarding

But isn’t fast or easy. It requires:

  • Courage
  • Determination
  • Sacrifice
  • Discipline
  • Having a passion for what your are doing

Some businesses like freelancing, can be launched on a shoe string. While others, like launching an online store, require a significant amount of money to get started.

Fortunately, the internet has leveled the playing field and it’s now more easier  than ever before to raise the money you need to start a business (even if it’s just a sideline business).

Here are a few of the methods I have personally used in the past to raise money to start some of my businesses:

  • Sold used items on Craigslist
  • Sold products as an independent sales rep
  • Sweat Equity
  • Worked part-time as a retail merchandiser
  • Worked online doing freelance work
